Burglary case soon may be cracked
October 29, 2001
The criminals behind DeKalb’s recent car burglaries might soon be apprehended.
The DeKalb Police Department says it has a solid lead in the case.
DeKalb Police Sgt. Jim McDougall said the department has between two and four suspects whom they believe are responsible for the 28 car burglaries and break-ins in the past week around the Greek Row area.
McDougall said a fight Thursday night at 7-Eleven, at the corner of Hillcrest Drive and Annie Glidden Road, lead to the arrest of one of the suspects. Upon further investigation, officers found the suspect to possess some of the stolen property.
The stolen goods, McDougall said, were traced back to the car burglaries that occurred earlier in the week.
Police also have received tips from Crime Stoppers they say are helping them solve the case.
McDougall said they hope to make arrests and solve these burglaries by Monday or Tuesday.
None of the suspects are NIU students, McDougall said.
