Hammock not worried about rushing game
October 7, 2001
Thomas Hammock isn’t worried about his performances as of late.
With his 67-yard performance against Marshall, the junior tailback now has rushed for under 100-yards for the second-straight game. Against Toledo, Hammock rushed for 10 yards on 10 carries, snapping an eight-game streak while rushing for over 100 yards.
“I don’t see this as a problem,” Hammock said. “We just have to come out with the mindset that we are going to come out and run the ball and be physical.”
But Hammock said the Huskies have to come back next week against Kent State and run the ball like they did against South Florida and Illinois.
For the season, Hammock has rushed for 517 yards. Before the Toledo game last week, Hammock had 440 yards rushing, which was the second-best total in the Mid-American Conference.
Sophomore Michael Turner saw playing time against Marshall and rushed for 60 yards on 11 carries, good for 5.5 yards a carry.
Despite Hammock not being worried about the rushing game, Turner doesn’t know why the Huskies haven’t been able to run the last two games.
“I have no idea,” Turner said. “There’s little mess-ups here and there. One person messes up and then the whole play is going down the drain. We have to get back to executing and everyone has to do their jobs.”
