NIU to duel Iowa

By Adam Zolmierski

NIU volleyball coach Todd Kress was very pleased with how his Huskies played last weekend, and is looking for the same play tonight against Iowa.

The Huskies take on the Hawkeyes tonight at Chick Evans Field House at 7 p.m.

NIU finished third in the Illini Classic last weekend as they lost to the University of Florida, and then later went on to defeat Butler University.

“This past weekend I thought we played well,” Kress said. “We got our split. We hit well, played good defense and served the ball well. I am looking for us to continue to play at that level against Iowa.”

In order for the Huskies to beat the Big Ten program, they will have to minimize their mistakes and play good defense, which they did this past weekend. However, they want to come away with a victory.

Also, they will need their younger players to continue to step up as they have in the past few games. Freshman Tera Lobdell played well against Butler and will need to play another great all-around game to increase the Huskies’ chances of pulling out a win.

NIU is currently 3-2 and looking to rack up a few more victories before they start conference play next week. They have played a quality schedule so far, which should help them when they begin conference play.

Iowa is another quality program, and the Huskies know they are going to pose some problems for them.

“They are a Big Ten program, with a great left side,” said Kress. “They are really big and physical, which will give us some problems. I am just looking for us to improve our play in certain aspects.”
