BOT to discuss university projects
September 19, 2001
The Board of Trustees is kicking off the semester with its first full meeting today.
Several of the board’s committees will present their reports at the meeting, which starts at 9 a.m. and will be held in the Holmes Student Center’s Clara Sperling Sky Room.
“We will just go over what is in the agenda,” said trustee Myron Siegel. “At the moment, I don’t think anything new will be added.”
Today’s meeting will mostly go over the capital budgets, which allocates funds for various university projects.
One of the projects that will be talked about will be the Stevens Building renovation. The project will provide things like new energy-efficient windows, a new roof and ceiling and improved accessibility for people with disabilities.
The board also will discuss Barsema Hall, the new home for the college of business, and the Wirtz Hall renovation.
New actions also will be recommended at the meeting, including the delivery fee for the alternative teacher certification program. The recommendation is a delivery fee of $75 per credit hour, since the university projects an enrollment of 25 to 30 candidates.
Certain completed projects or projects in motion are expected to be discussed.
The Huskie Stadium turf replacement was completed June 22. The university was awarded a $200,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs to replace the turf in Huskie Stadium, which brought the net cost to $581,621.
This also will be the first meeting for newly-elected student trustee Alex Alaniz.
Alaniz said he is ready to jump into his role.
“This is a transition period for me,” Alaniz said. “[The meetings] usually run smooth. Everyone on the board is very experienced.”
