Women’s soccer match postponed

As a result of the terrorist attacks in the United States on Tuesday, NIU officials have postponed the women’s soccer game with Central Michigan on Sunday.

No makeup date has been set, but coach Frank Horvat says the team will continue to practice on days classes are in session.

“In regard to this week, I think there’s a couple of good reasons why this is happening,” he said. “One, just to give everybody more time to settle down and get into a normal routine. Two, pay some respect to the great losses we’ve all suffered and our country has suffered this week. It gives us all time this weekend to spend more time with our families, which we normally wouldn’t be doing and I think that’s important.”

Team captains Sarah Dickinson and Megan Anderson admit that the attacks have caused a distraction.

“It’s made it hard to concentrate on everything beyond soccer,” Dickinson said. “(On Tuesday) coach asked us if we wanted to practice, and everyone was like, we should try.”

Both players also said that team members are doing what they can to help. Some have donated blood, others are seeing what else they can do.
