Attack victim doesn’t press charges

The DeKalb Police Department is reporting that no charges will be filed against the attackers of an NIU student.

The attack, which happened about 1 a.m. Thursday in the parking lot of 419 Normal Rd., was supposedly racially motivated.

DeKalb police Lt. Jim Kayes said the victim, of Indian descent, was allegedly put in a headlock and punched in the face after suspects mentioned the terrorist attacks on New York to the victim.

If the victim had been interested in pressing charges, DeKalb police would have continued with the case, Kayes said, but since he chose not to, the case has been dropped.

Kayes also said like many fights that are fueled by alcohol (like police reports indicate this was) victims will many time just drop the case.

Larry Bolles, director of NIU’s judicial office, said this is the only reported incident on campus fueled by last week’s terrorist attacks.
