Huskies aim for .500 against Eastern Mich.

The NIU baseball team looks to get back on track in the Mid-American Conference this weekend against Eastern Michigan.

The Huskies are coming off a three-game sweep from Ball State in the MAC opener. For the second straight season, the Huskies have started conference play by dropping the season opener.

The Huskies head into their second series of MAC play against the Eagles at Ypsilanti, Mich. on Friday for a double-header at noon. NIU returns to DeKalb on Sunday for another double-header against the Eagles, with Game 1 starting at noon.

“We’ve dug ourselves a bit of a hole to start the league season, but Ball State has had our number the past 19 years,” said NIU coach Dave Schrage. “We bounced back last year after they swept us. I just hope that our guys are resilient enough to bounce back again.”

So far, NIU has lived up to Schrage’s billing. The Huskies (10-10 overall, 0-3 MAC) defeated Bradley Wednesday in a double-header, 11-9 and 7-5, to put them back at .500.
