Final home game adds pressure for win

By Nick Gerts

All Mike Brown wants in his last home game is a victory.

The senior guard said playing his last game at Chick Evans Field House hasn’t hit home yet.

“All I want to do is win it,” he said. “It is kind of important because it would be a good way to end the season if we are going to try and win.”

As the Huskies face Western Michigan tonight with a 7 p.m. tipoff, NIU interim coach Andy Greer said it’s important to send out the seniors with a win.

“For most, this will be their last game, and it will be the only game they will remember the most about,” Greer said. “It is going to be the last time they play in front of a home crowd. I hope we can send them out with a nice W.”

The Huskies snapped a nine—game losing streak when they defeated Eastern Michigan 62—58 Saturday. Greer said he hopes the Huskies will continue with the success they had against the Eagles.

Brown said the last time NIU (5—20 overall, 4—12 Mid—American Conference) played WMU, the Huskies kept up pretty well. NIU lost to the Broncos 81—77 Jan. 27.

“Some of their scorers got off to a hot start,” he said. “If we can contain them, I think we should be all right.”

The Huskies have one more game before the MAC Tournament, where they’ll face Central Michigan March 6.
