February 5, 2001
A 21-year-old man and his 20-year-old female companion, an NIU student, were held at gunpoint about 3 a.m. Saturday in a robbery attempt on West Hillcrest Drive.
The victims were entering the rear of 827 W. Hillcrest Drive when two suspects confronted them and took the man’s car keys. The suspects then unsuccessfully attempted to steal the man’s vehicle or the stereo within.
One suspect allegedly threatened the victims with a semiautomatic handgun. Neither was injured. The vehicle was damaged, however.
The first suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall black male with a tall, thin build. He was wearing a greenish-black shirt, a black hood and a handkerchief over his face.
The second suspect is described as a 5-foot-9-inch black male with a tall, thin build. He was wearing a black ski mask, black pants and a blue sweatshirt.
