Models practice catwalk skills

Present Perfect Modeling Organization practiced “working their clothes” Thursday in preparation for their upcoming Afrocentric Fashion Show.
The models went over single and double runs for the show, which is set for 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Holmes Student Center’s Duke Ellington Ballroom, with fashions by Hotirah “Sister” and Felicia Ogundipe. Special guests for the show include BROTHERS organization and poets on campus.
“We go over everything, perfect it and make it stage-ready,” said Aureus Chandler, a junior marketing major and choreographer for the organization.
PPMO President Janet Davis said the 22 models have been practicing for three weeks for the organization’s 16th annual show. The models will “remember the times” with scenes that go through a timeline from the ’60s to the present. Other scenes are “Black Power,” “Create Your Own” and “Headwraps,” said Eugene McKinney, a senior communication major and choreographer.
“We’re trying to do things differently,” McKinney said. “We want it to be more enjoyable for the audience.”
The models’ practice was choreographed to music by Bilal, Ludacris and Janet Jackson.
“We’ll definitely be ready,” McKinney said.
For some models, this isn’t the only show they’ll do.
Recently, Trevina Jackson and Janet Davis of PPMO went to Las Vegas as models for Bezzeledout, a designer the group has been working with since last year.Andrea childress photo
