More than just a can of corn
February 13, 2001
Putting a food drive together isn’t a can of corn, but cans of corn are accepted.
Along with food, the drive is in need of some extra help.
“We are looking for a lot of volunteers, especially at the field house site from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.,” said Michelle Bringas, food drive coordinator. “There are also slower time slots available, but the earlier morning is the busiest time of day.”
The event is sponsored by Student Volunteer Corps, Student Affairs and the Transportation Department.
The items will be donated to the Food Pantry in Sycamore, Hope Haven, Safe Passage, Trans Vac and Salvation Army.
All you have to do is bring your canned goods to any of the following drop-off areas: Campus Life Building, Chick Evans Field House, Music Building/Art Building, Anderson Hall and the Parking Deck, where vans will be stationed in the parking lots to pick up the goods.
It is important to remember to use double strength bags, and to donate only non-glass, non-perishable foods. Clothing is not being collected at this time.
Such items as canned or boxed foods, gift certificates from Jewel or Dominick’s, baby and adult toiletries and laundry detergents are all acceptable. A few examples include cereal, macaroni and cheese, canned tuna, diapers, shampoo, soap and soup cans.
