Greer hopes road will cure Huskie slump
February 9, 2001
Interim men’s basketball coach Andy Greer thinks this weekend’s road trip might do the Huskies good.
The action starts Saturday when the Huskies face Toledo, whom they defeated 68-67 this season at Chick Evans Field House when Greg Stempin missed a layup that would have taken the game into overtime.
The Toledo victory was the last time the Huskies (4-16 overall, 3-8 Mid-American Conference) won a game. NIU is currently on a five-game losing skid.
“It is going to be about defense,” Greer said. “We have to keep the score in the 60s and we are going to have to be more competitive.”
The Huskies just completed three games in five days, so to be fully rested for Toledo, Greer gave his players Thursday off.
“It would be good for us,” he said. “We need a day off. Hopefully, we will respond.”
