Agrimson takes home another honor

Peter Agrimson’s awards keeps growing by the minute.

After being named to the First-Team Central Region honor roll this season, the third-year sophomore defenseman was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of American Second-Team All-American Team.

“It speaks highly of his work, as well as NIU’s commitment academically and athletically,” said coach Willy Roy. “Peter has had two great seasons, both on the field and in the classroom. He exemplifies what a student-athlete is all about.”

Agrimson was named to the First-Team All-Region team in 1999 as a freshman, after leading the Huskies to the Mid-American Conference Championship game, losing to Kentucky.

The defenseman has a 3.39 cumulative grade-point average as a finance major. For the fall semester, Agrimson posted a perfect 4.0 GPA and is up for the Verizon/CoSISA Academic All-District honors.

Agrimson was the second Huskie to be named to the NSCAA All-American academic honor roll. Markus Roy was the first Huskie player to make it to the list after garnering First-Team All-American accolades in 1990 and 1991.

“Obviously, I’m extremely happy for Peter,” Roy said. “We promoted him to captain last season because his leadership can rub off on his teammates and give them that same level of commitment academically and athletically. He is a tremendous role model for our younger players.”

For the 2000 season, Agrimson was second on the Huskies with three goals, and his six points was the fourth-best point total on the team.

To be considered for the NSCAA team, a player must be at the junior level and carry a 3.30 GPA.
