NIU Athletics to host virtual event for fans
January 22, 2021
DeKALB — The football team will host a virtual event Feb. 1 intended to give fans a chance to interact with Huskies coaches and players, NIU Athletics announced in a news release Tuesday.
Fans will be able to ask questions to Athletic Director Sean Frazier and the football staff about the state of NIU football, according to the release.
“Fans will hear about the team’s offseason training, learn about the newest Huskies signed in December and have their questions answered directly by the participants,” the release states.
Head Coach Thomas Hammock, offensive coordinator Eric Eidsness, defensive coordinator Derrick Johnson and members of the team’s leadership council are expected to attend.
Six NIU football players are also advertised, with the news release promising “newcomers and veterans on both sides of the ball, will be on hand to provide their perspective as offseason workouts are underway.”
Offseason workouts started earlier this month following an 0-6 record during the shortened season, the team’s first winless season since 1997.
Among the Huskies taking part in offseason workouts are several incoming first-years and newly-enrolled transfers, including redshirt junior quarterback Rocky Lombardi and redshirt junior running back Clint Ratkovich.
Registration is free but required to attend the event. Fans can register at niuhuskies.com to have a Zoom invite sent to their email address.
