Clinton/Gore supporters review election campaign

Supporters for presidential candidate Bill Clinton and his running mate Albert Gore met Thursday and discussed actions the group would take to support the Democratic ticket.

According to a press release issued by the group, over 125 supporters attended the organizational meeting.

Group spokeswoman Judith Mittler said the group was a grassroots organization set up to support the top of the Democratic ticket.

The group was not set up by the Democratic party, but by local volunteers for Clinton/Gore, she said.

Mittler said she felt the local Democratic candidates were adequately supported by the Democratic Party.

“Our goal is to bring in independent, Republican and Democratic voters to bring out the vote for Clinton/Gore,” said Eileen Dubin, another group spokeswoman.

Dubin said Clinton supporters who attended the organizational meeting came from a wide range of groups.

Clinton’s platform and “the need for change” were the main ideas of the Democratic ticket that appealed to members of the group, she said.

The group plans to register voters and to begin a network telephone campaign.

Dubin said the group also seeks to raise funds for the campaign.
