The NIU men’s soccer team will wrap up its preseason Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader at Huskie Soccer Field.

Game 1 at 3 p.m. will be against the Chicago Sting All-Star Alumni, followed by a 4:30 match-up against the Huskie Alumni.

The Huskies will warm up with a game against the Sting that

Coach Willy Roy said will be more of a fun game. Most of the players are older, and they will be teamed up with some of the older alumni.

“It will be a good game for everybody to play,” Roy said.

The NIU alumni game, on the other hand, features “young, hungry players ready to show us something,” said Roy. “I hope they don’t beat us by too much.”

Many of the returning alumni are playing semipro ball now. “It will be a good test, a warm up for the varsity,” Roy added.

The Roy brothers will be reunited Saturday when Willy Jr. comes back to join Markus and Karsten along with Eric Roy, Frank Sparacino, Al Zelekowski, Robert Gross, John Bati, Mark Ziegwald, Jimmy Corno Jr., Tim O’Keefe, John O’Keefe, Ed Kositski, Joe Suhojda, Preben Halle, Steve Brody, George Smith, Jim Pisant, Vincent Matuis and many more.

Several Huskies were sidelined from practice yesterday. Midfielders Todd Moore (knee) and Charles Martel (ankle) both sat out practice but will play Saturday, if able.

“Todd has been working very hard this preseason and will play if he can – same with Charles,” Roy said.

The Sting All-Star Alumni will feature Pato Margetic, Derek Spalding, Bret Hall, Rudy Glenn and more.

The festivities will also include a live band along with a concession stand.
