What does NIU’s Alpha Phi sorority have in common with the Chicago Bulls?

Both groups have repeated as champions.

Alpha Phi sorority members took home the Most Outstanding Chapter Award this summer for the second time in a row, said Anna Bicanic, history major and Alpha Phi member.

Alpha Phi President Jennifer Sibley said during the summer Alpha Phi members including herself, Michelle Goshko, and Liz Arthur traveled to Florida for a biennial convention where they won the award.

Sibley said the house got the award because of its programs on scholarship, promotions, Rush, alumni, social, and fraternity education. “All of this is based on two years of work so we have actually held the award for four years,” Sibley added.

“We went there not thinking we were going to win because we didn’t know we were nominated by the district governor,” said Liz Arthur, Alpha Phi Rush chair.

“The convention is made up of the 143 national Alpha Phi chapters,” Bicanic said.

The purpose of the convention is to benefit the collegiate chapters, Sibley said. It consists of workshops, seminars, and socials, she added. “The chapters learn ways to change and to improve their chapter for the better,” Sibley said.

“I think we have a good chance of winning it again in 1994 because we’re in a strong position to win it being the largest sorority on campus, having high scholarship and very strong leaders,” Sibley said.
