Women linksters to wrap up season at Boilermaker Invite

Just when the NIU women’s golf team is getting into the swing of things, the spring season comes to a close. So the Huskies obviously hope to end the regular season with a bang.
NIU participates in the Purdue University Lady Boilermaker Spring Invitational on April 18-19 in West Lafayette, Ind. The two-day, 54-hole event is going to be played at the Purdue South Golf Course. Seventeen teams are vying for the title on the par 72, 5,900-yard course.
Northern Illinois coach Pam Tyska said that if her players keep mentally focused and play like they are capable of doing, then there is no reason the Huskies can’t close the year with a title. Always a team leader, senior Nicole Jeray paces the NIU group with a 77.8 scoring average. Shelley Wendels is another key for Northern Illinois. Just a freshman, Wendels has a powerful swing for the tee and currently averages 80.9 per round.
“We could win this tournament, which would be a great gift from all of the players to Nicole,” Tyska said.
