The upcoming year will bring many films that are thrilling, horror-seeking and long-awaited that will soon play in theaters. Here are the top movies to look forward to in 2022.

1. ‘Scream’

The revival of this ‘90s film franchise was set into motion when the lead star Neve Campbell decided for Sidney Prescott to come back. After the honorable director Wes Craven’s passing, Campbell was sure her role as Prescott would be a thing of the past, according to gamesradar+. Some of the main characters have returned to the film to help combat the recurrence of the Ghostface killings that took place in their old hometown of Woodsboro, Calif., that have somehow been linked to their past. “Scream” is set to be released Jan. 14.

2. ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’

This action-filled franchise has been impressive thus far, so this new film probably shouldn’t bring about any concerns.  John Wick is back again and is seeking vengeance. This sequel will present a setting filled with new adventures, experiences and adversities that John Wick must face and overcome throughout the movie. This action-based sequel has grossed over $500 million in the box office and fans can look forward to this upcoming installment. “John Wick: Chapter 4”will be shown in theaters May 27, 2022.

3. ‘The Batman’

Actor Robert Pattinson, playing Batman, will be an interesting sight considering his previous role as the compassionate, protective and charming vampire Edward Cullen from the Twilight series. His role as Batman has sparked an interest for many people, and hopefully, his portrayal in the film emulates the ideology of Batman and all he is known for.  In this new movie, we get to see a new side of Robert Pattinson as playing a superhero, but for many actors that play legendary roles, sometimes the remake of the films are worse than the original. With the millions of views from the trailer, fans are excited to see what new ventures Pattinson will be up to. “The Batman” will be in theaters March 4.

4. ‘Morbius’

This upcoming film is set to be released Jan. 28 and is a Sony film production in association with Marvel Studios, according to Newsweek. As an adversary to the Spider-Man films such as “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “Spider-Man: Far from Home,” this upcoming movie has projected the character himself as an anti-hero due to his new circumstances as a vampire.

5. ‘Lightyear’

The animated Disney Pixar movie will feature Buzz Lightyear’s origin story as a space ranger. This film is a readaptation to the previous film, “Buzz Lightyear of the Star Command: The Adventure Begins,” and depicts Buzz’s counterpart, according to Screenrant. This film will have no ties to “Toy Story,” so the inspiration from the original film, “Star Command,” will be impacted to a slight degree. Some influences, such as the hallway filled with yellow robots, the appearance of Mira Nova and many of their settings are similar, but the plot approach will be different. “Lightyear” will be released June 17.
