Tennis team wins
April 12, 1992
While the NIU women’s tennis team was able to shut out Valparaiso University, the Huskies couldn’t overcome Mother Nature and had to settle for a 1-0 weekend trip.
The Huskies chalked up a 9-0 whitewashing over Valparaiso Friday, but a Saturday morning North Star Conference date with Akron was postponed by rain.
In the NIU conquest over the Crusaders, the Huskies dominance was clear cut with each singles and doubles contest being decided in two sets. More to the point, NIU never yielded more than three games in any one set.
The strongest performance belonged to Hild Andersch and Breda Dean—both 6-0, 6-0 winners in the Nos. 2 and 6 singles contests.
“We’re just that much stronger than Valparaiso right now, plus we were really on our games,” NIU coach Patty Groth said. “Everyone deserves a pat on the back.”
The 10-6 Huskies host NSC foe UIC Tuesday in a 1 p.m. match.
