Robert Self in the Feb. 25 edition of the Northern Star kindly informed the student body that “Students are free to use any language they want in the free world, but they should be aware of the cost of that freedom.” Self also casually quipped that students’ grades could be lowered if they fail to meet the amorphous requirements of the Freshman (Freshperson? Freshuman?) English Committee. These gender “exclusive” requirements are nothing more than the linguistic equivalent of a fascist salute to the “Politically Correct” movement. For to say “caveman” instead of “cave dweller” is to thumb your nose at the movement. This of course will not be tolerated. As Winston Smith in the book “1984” lost his life, so shall you lose your grade. Shame on you, Robert Self. Shame on us.
