IDPH reports over 60,000 COVID-19 cases this week
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported over 60,000 new cases of COVID-19. This includes confirmed cases and probable cases of the virus in Illinois. There has been an increase in deaths since Jan. 28, 2022. The 60,389 cases reported this week shows a significant decrease in cases since last week, which saw 123,812 cases in total.
At present, the IDPH is reporting nearly three million coronavirus cases in 102 counties across the state of Illinois. This includes 31,296 deaths from the virus. Cases have been confirmed in humans of all ages; babies younger than one-year-old to adults older than 100 years old have had confirmed coronavirus cases.
As of Feb. 3, 2022, over 3,000 people were reportedly hospitalized due to COVID-19. Over 500 of those patients were in the ICU, and 314 others were on ventilators.
The initial seven-day case positivity rate across Illinois from Jan. 28 to Feb. 3 tops out at 5.8%. The test positivity rate for the same period in Illinois is 8%.
So far, over 20.6 million COVID-19 vaccinations have been administered across the state, with 200,384 vaccines being administered in the past week. More than 75% of Illinois’s total population have received at least one dose, and 66% of Illinois residents have been fully vaccinated. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly half of the total population of Illinois has received their booster shot.
