IDPH reports almost 30,000 COVID cases this week

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported nearly 30,000 new cases of COVID-19 in Illinois today. This includes both confirmed and probable cases. Since last Friday, Feb. 4, there has been an increase of almost 500 deaths from the coronavirus. 

Across 102 counties in Illinois, the IDPH has reported a total of nearly three million cases of COVID-19, including 31,795 deaths. Cases have ranged from infants less than one year old to adults older than 100 years old. As of midnight of Feb. 10, over 2,000 Illinois residents were reportedly hospitalized due to COVID-19. Of those, 432 patients were in the intensive care unit, and nearly 250 patients were on ventilators. 

Of those who tested, the preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate from Feb. 3 to Feb. 9 was 4.5%. In the same period, the total positivity rate jumped nearly 1.5% to a total of 5.8%. 

As of today, a total of nearly 21 million vaccines have been administered in Illinois. The average number of vaccines administered daily is just over 24,000. Since last Friday, 150,651 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Illinois. More than 75% of Illinois’ total population has received at least one dose of the vaccine. Two-thirds of the total population is now fully vaccinated, having received two shots of any available vaccine. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 48% of Illinois residents have received two vaccinations and a booster shot.
