Week of Feb. 14 gas update: Prices increase 5.4 cents per gallon

The cheapest gas prices in the state reported Sunday at $3.17/g, while the most expensive was $4.49/g with a difference of $1.32/g.

DeKALB — The average gasoline prices have increased to 5.4 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.66/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 4,378 stations in Illinois. Prices in Illinois are 23.6 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

The cheapest station in Illinois was priced at $3.23/g yesterday while the most expensive was $4.48/g, making a difference of $1.25/g.

The gasoline prices in Illinois have changed drastically in the past ten years on Monday. The price of gasoline on Mondays went from $3.50 per gallon in 2012, $1.56 per gallon in 2016 to its current price of $2.62 per gallon.

“The jump in gasoline prices has continued unabated as oil prices continue to push higher, reaching $94 per barrel last week on continued concern over the possible imminent threat that Russia may invade Ukraine,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

The national average price of gasoline has risen 4.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.47/g today. The national average is up 16.5 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 97.2 cents per gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
