Financial Aid Awareness Month to help students

By Rob Heselbarth

Students will get answers to their financial aid questions as Financial Aid Awareness Month kicks off today at NIU.

Representatives from the financial aid office will be available to help students with any financial aid problems they might have today and Tuesday from 1 to 6 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center, Room 305.

“If students have their financial aid forms and tax forms ready, we can look them over and make sure they’re filled out properly,” said Donna Martin, NIU financial aid counselor.

Any questions students have about financial aid for this school year or next school year will be answered, Martin said.

“We will have a videotape running continuously on how to fill out 1992-93 Financial Aid Forms, Martin said.

“Students can still file for the 1991-92 school year if they want to. Financial aid is still available,” Martin said.

Financial aid forms for both school years will be available to be picked up, she said.

The priority deadline to file for financial aid is March 1. Anyone filing before the deadline is guaranteed to receive her financial aid by fall semester, Martin said.

Anyone filing after the deadline will not receive financial aid by the beginning of fall semester, but might receive it after the semester starts.

In order to file properly, students must have an NIU application for financial aid, their FAF filled out and their tax forms prepared and signed, Martin added.

Financial aid counselors will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m today through Friday at the west end of the Pow Wow to answer questions and hand out forms to students who can’t make it to Room 305.
