I am currently enrolled in Math 232 here at NIU (Calculus 3rd semester). I am addressing the need for, especially the mathematics department, to go through the list of professors on their payroll and find out which can actually communicate fluently in English to students. I have spoken to too many fellow students who say they have the same problem. Math is a very hard subject as it is, but not being able to understand the professor makes it doubly hard. It is almost like learning straight out of the book itself. Don’t get me wrong, I am NOT questioning the professors’ knowledge of the subject they are teaching, but AM questioning their ability to convey this knowledge on to the students. We need to understand the professors before we can learn the new material.
