Weapons seized

University Police seized several kinds of ammunition from an NIU student’s Douglas Hall residence room Monday night.

The UPs responded to a student’s tip that the ammunition was in the room.

Technicians from the Fort Sheridan Explosives Ordinance Division removed five rifle cartridges, a .50 caliber shell, two grenades and several small projectiles from the student’s room, UP Lt. Kathy Guimond said.

The explosives experts will analyze the ammunition to determine its type and potential hazard, Guimond said.

Although a suspect has been identified, no charges have been filed yet in the incident, police said.

The incident is under investigation, police said.
