Winning Powerball ticket of $1 million ticket sold in Sycamore
November 1, 2022
The Powerball jackpot grand prize is now at $1.2 billion. If won, it would be the fourth largest lottery jackpot won in U.S. history according to ABC News. The Powerball jackpot rose to $1.2 billion, after the drawing on Oct. 31 had no grand prize winner.
On Oct. 26, the jackpot rose to $800 million after there was no grand prize winning ticket.
Even though there was no grand prize winner, Illinois Lottery says that players should still check their Powerball tickets from Oct. 26 because one person is holding a ticket worth $50,000 and another is holding a ticket worth one million dollars.
The one million dollar ticket was purchased at Riverside Mobil, on 503 N. Main Street in Sycamore. The manager of the store claims to know who purchased the ticket.
“A gentleman, who is one of our regular customers, popped into our store early this morning and exclaimed, ‘you guys sold me a million dollar winning Powerball ticket – thank you, thank you’,” said Betsy Byrd, store manager of Riverside Mobil.
Riverside Mobil will receive a selling bonus of 1 percent of the winning prize, which means that Riverside Mobil receives a bonus of $10,000. As for the winner, he is the sixth Illinois Lottery player who has won a prize of one million dollars or more since January.
“My staff and I are excited that our store sold a big prize winning ticket, but we’re absolutely overjoyed that we sold the winning ticket to someone that we all know,” Byrd said.
Lottery winners will have one year from the date of the winning draw to claim their prize. The Illinois Lottery encourages winners to write their names on winning tickets and keep them safe until they want to redeem their winnings.
Powerball tickets are sold for $2 each with the option of adding the Powerplay for an additional $1 for the chance to multiply non-jackpot prizes. Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 9:59 p.m. CST.
