Rec Center announces group fitness class schedule

The NIU Campus Recreation Center will hold free exercise classes today and Friday.

In celebration of the new year, students have the opportunity to participate in group classes including yoga, AGT, kickboxing and 20/40/20 step.

Interested students should stop by the Rec for more details.

Classes are as follows:

Thursday, Jan. 19:

Yoga: 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. (Room 1)

AGT: 6 to 7 p.m. (Room 1)

Kickboxing: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (Room 2)

Friday, Jan. 20:

20/40/20 Step: 3:30 to 4:50 p.m. (Room 1)

The Rec also is offering a new F.I.T Club which will start January 24.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30 p.m., interested students will be split into teams and have the opportunity to compete against each other in different physical activities.

The cost for the program is $25 and sign-ups currently are underway. Students can sign up at the front desk or call Toni Robinson at 753-9427. The maximum number of participants is 30.

Auditions for entrance into School of Music set

The School of Music will hold auditions for brass, percussion, piano, violin (music education), voice and woodwinds for the Fall 2006 semester.

According to NIU’s School of Music Web site, auditions for entrance to the school will take place Friday, Feb. 10; Saturday, Feb. 11; Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4. Additional voice auditions will take place Thursday, Feb. 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, March 2 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Auditions for violin (performance), viola, cello, bass (jazz and classical), organ, jazz piano and guitar (jazz and classical) are by appointment only. Contact Lynn Slater at 753-1546 or by e-mail at [email protected] for more information.
