Grades only available online due to budget

By Shivangi Potdar | May 5, 2006

For the second semester in a row, students' grade reports for this semester will be posted online. The grades will be available mid-morning on May 14.

Robin Hendricks, assistant director for the registration and records office, said the main reason for the grades no longer being mailed home is the budget cuts.

Donald Larson, executive director of enrollment services and registrar, said this saves the school about $15,000 annually on postage.

One concern with the grades not being mailed home is that parents do not have direct access to their children's grades.

For parents who would like to see how their college kids are doing, the information can be obtained by mailing their most recent tax information to the Office of Records and Registration for all dependent students.

Hendricks said there have been a few cases of parents finding out their children's grades indirectly.

Another problem with the online grades was that it did not include the name of the student on the online report.

Students require proof of their grades for good student insurance, Hendricks said.

The problem is being fixed so that the online grade reports will now include the students' names and z-ID numbers, Hendricks said.
