Apartment fire causes $15,000 in damages

DeKALB - A structure fire broke out Friday at 843 W. Taylor Street, Apt. #1023.

The DeKalb Fire Department responded to the alarm at 2:47 p.m. Neighbors reported that they smelled smoke and went into the hallway, where they saw smoke coming from the apartment.

The fire reportedly started in the kitchen and caused $15,000 worth of damage.

After calling the landlord's office, the office personnel ran to the building to start evacuating it and found that emergency services had not been called.

No one was home in the apartment and the fire was contained to the apartment where it started. No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported.

The fire took 20 minutes to gain control of and extinguish.

The Sycamore Fire Department also responded.
