DeKalb police charge man with DUI, reckless driving

By Nicholas Alajakis | February 11, 2004

A DeKalb man was arrested Monday night following a hit-and-run incident that involved a possible knife sighting and alcohol.

A driver chased down a vehicle that he said had cut him off in traffic and almost hit his pickup truck on Blackhawk Drive shortly before midnight Monday, DeKalb police said.

Police said Pablo A. Paredes, 31, of 807 Ridge Drive became angry and ran to the vehicle that he said almost ran him off the road. He then punched the vehicle’s window. Victims inside the vehicle said they saw a knife, DeKalb Police Lt. Jim Kayes said.

Moments later, Paredes got into a purple Ford Ranger and followed the victim and his vehicle, rear-ending it in the 900 block of Greenbrier Road, police said.

Police were in the area by 11:58 p.m. and began searching for the suspect, Kayes said.

Paredes was found in a parking lot in the 900 block of Kimberly Drive. He initially denied involvement in the accident and had no knife in his possession, Kayes said. He was, however, determined by police to have been drinking alcohol.

Paredes was arrested, and his car was towed. He was charged with DUI, reckless driving, no driver’s license and no insurance.

Paredes posted $100 bail and was released from police custody Tuesday morning.
