Call it coincidence or fate, former NIU wide receiver P.J. Fleck was recently named an offensive graduate assistant for Ohio State. "Tracy — Fleck's wife — and I had to make a huge decision," Fleck said. "I didn't know what the future would hold for...

By Ben Gross | August 30, 2006

DeKalb: 39,000 people; the world: six billion. Those are just populations, but those numbers might as well represent the odds that have been placed over the head of the Huskies to win this Saturday at Ohio State. But from talking to the players, you would...

There may be no bigger shoes to fill on the OSU defense than those at the linebacker position. Departed seniors AJ Hawk, Anthony Schlegel and Bobby Carpenter all went on to the NFL. Fifth-year senior John Kerr and sophomores Marcus Freeman and James Laurinaitis...

Getting Defensive

By Sean Connor | August 29, 2006

Senior defensive tackles Quinn Pitcock and David Patterson are the only returning starters from last year's No. 5 ranked OSU defense. But they also claim to have what is called the best defensive tackle tandem in college football.

Named as two of the four Ohio State football captains on Aug. 25, each one stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs over 280 pounds.

The two will also receive help from fifth-year senior defensive end Jay Richardson and sophomore Vernon Gholston.

OSU coach Jim Tressel's defenses have never been ranked lower than No. 20 in the nation, and the two monsters in the middle will look to return OSU and it's No. 5-ranked defense of last season back to the top.
