Express Yourself: A Northern Star project

We want to read your views

The Northern Star as part of its Express Yourself project on free expression is accepting opinion pieces written by readers to encourage the public to share their thoughts on important issues.

Guidelines for how to express yourself

  • Express Yourself pieces submitted anonymously will not be published. Submissions from NIU students and employees should include the writer’s first and last names, NIU email address and a preferred phone number. Members of the public should submit their first and last names, town of residence and a phone number. Phone numbers will not be published but will be used to verify the author’s identity.
  • Express Yourself pieces should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for clarity and brevity.
  • Express Yourself pieces should be submitted to [email protected].
  • The Northern Star reserves the right to decide not to publish a piece deemed obscene, libelous or otherwise not up to the Northern Star’s editorial standards. If you do not follow the our guidelines, we will not publish your submission.
