NIU women's track and field won 11 events at the IWU Invitational. The Huskies went on record-breaking binge as they broke six meet, five track and two program records."The ladies continue to impress me with their competitive effort," said NIU coach Connie Teaberry in a press release. "Compared to last year, we doubled our first-place finishes, which shows improvement. We are definitely heading in the right direction."For the 4x200 relay team, NIU's Janay Mitchell took part in the record setting day, as she broke her own record with a time in 7.55 in the 60 meters and took first place.Mitchell's teammate, Chanel Kellyman, finished right behind her with a time of 7.65.In the 200 meters event, Mitchell was one of the five Huskies to finish in the top six places, setting a new record time with 25.03. Following Mitchell was Kellyman (second place 25.25), Rasheta Butler (third 25.37), Roneisha Frye (fourth 25.95) and Megan Gregory (sixth 26.01).The trio of Gregory, Frye and Jenelle McCalla helped NIU finish with the top three spots in the 60 hurdles. Gregory took first place with a time of 8.77, while Frye and McCalla finished in second and third, respectively.NIU's next event will be the Iowa State Classic from Feb. 10-11. Women's tennis defeats SIU Edwardsville A doubles victory ended up being the deciding factor as NIU women's tennis defeated SIU Edwardsville 4-3.In singles play, the Huskies split with SIU Edwardsville 3-3. NIU's Sara McLaughlin took home the top spot in singles play, as she defeated Kali Donner with scores of 6-1 and 6-3.The doubles tandems of McLaughlin/Emily Rodgers and Arantza De La Torre/Mary Malkin blanked their opponents 8-0. Nelle Youel and Haley Dekkinga helped seal the victory for the Huskies with an 8-5 win over SIU Edwardsville.
