By Matt Hopkinson | September 25, 2012

Sophomore wide receiver TommyLee Lewis has officially bridged the gap from a predominant special teams player to a legitimate receiving threat. “He’s really reliable,” said junior quarterback Jordan Lynch. “I think the biggest thing is we’re...

Tight ends often overlooked in football

By Matt Hopkinson | September 25, 2012

While there are a myriad of reasons NIU has been able to find success in its running game this season, one that may go overlooked is the tight ends. While seldom incorporated into the passing element of the offense, junior quarterback Jordan Lynch knows...

Jordan Lynch counts on defense in tough situations

By Matt Hopkinson | September 25, 2012

The football team’s defense has a habit of coming up big. In the first two games of the season, the Huskies defense gave up only one red zone touchdown. Against Army, there was a lot to be desired, but there were several key incidents where the defense...

By Matt Hopkinson | September 23, 2012

NIU football improved its home winning streak to 17 Saturday by defeating Kansas 30-23. NIU (3-1) found success through timely, stifling defense, as well as a balanced attack on offense that wore down the defense of Kansas (1-3). “To get back and play...

Questions raised about NIU football

By Matt Hopkinson | September 23, 2012

While the mention of Kansas always invokes the image of dust in the wind and the temptation to sing badly, music is not my topic. Following the 30-23 victory for NIU football over Kansas Saturday afternoon, I have a few question. The questions I’ve...

Lynch leads offense without question

By Brian Thomas | September 16, 2012

After a disappointing season opener against Iowa, NIU quarterback Jordan Lynch has proven over the last two weeks that he can be an effective weapon in the passing game. In week one against Iowa, the Huskies offense seemed as if it would be one-dimensional,...

Huskies overcome adversity in games

By Matt Hopkinson | September 16, 2012

Say what you want about the defensive effort of NIU against Army, there is one factor that cannot be questioned from that game: effort. The Huskies were able to face adversity on several different levels in their contest with the Black Knights and overcome,...

Huskies win against Army

By Matt Hopkinson | September 16, 2012

Given the fact that NIU only possessed the ball for 17:27 of a 60 minute game, a victory seemed improbable going off that statistic. However, the Huskies (2-1) needed little time to put up their 41 points, but struggled throughout the game on defense...

Huskie football key positions

By Matt Hopkinson | September 12, 2012

Quarterback: At quarterback the focal point will be Jordan Lynch once again. What will be interesting to watch for is the situation Lynch will be placed in. In the last game against Tennessee-Martin, Lynch rushed far fewer times than against Iowa, and...

Football shows balanced attack

Football shows balanced attack

By Matt Hopkinson | September 11, 2012

Last week, I opined that NIU’s offensive playcalling and playmaking abilities were one-dimensional. This week, it seemed anything but. In the match-up with Iowa, NIU did all they could to nearly pull off a victory, despite only having 55 yards passing....
