Women’s basketball headlines weekend slate with home opener

DeKALB – Three of NIU’s winter sports are underway as men’s basketball, women’s basketball and wrestling go to work. Hockey is still searching for its first win of the year while volleyball faces a conference rival for its final weekend series.

Friday, Nov. 11

VOLLEYBALL

5 p.m. CST | at Eastern Michigan University

NIU volleyball heads to Ypsilanti for its final weekend series of the regular season. The Huskies, sitting one spot shy of a MAC Tournament berth, will do battle with Eastern Michigan, the bottom-ranked team in the MAC West, on Friday and Saturday.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

7 p.m. | at Northwestern University

Evanston, Ill. / Welsh-Ryan Arena

The NIU men’s basketball team will play their first road game of the season as they have a non-conference matchup against the Northwestern Wildcats at 7 p.m. The game will be available on the Big Ten network. 

HOCKEY

7:30 p.m. | vs. Waldorf University

West Dundee / Canlan Ice Sports

The Huskies face Waldorf in the teams’ first meeting of the season. The Warriors come in 0-6 on the road, while NIU is still looking for its first victory of the season. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. at Canlan Ice Sports in West Dundee and the game can be streamed on the NIU Hockey YouTube channel.

Saturday, Nov. 12

WRESTLING

10 a.m. | Huskie Duals

DeKalb / Victor. E Court

NIU wrestling will play host to the Lindenwood University Lions and the Harper College Hawks at Victor E. Court as part of the annual Huskie Duals . NIU will face off with Lindenwood first at 10 a.m. and will wrap up the meet against Harper College at about 1 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

1 p.m. | vs. DePaul University

NIU women’s basketball hosts the DePaul Blue Demons for its home opener at the Convocation Center. The Huskies, fresh off a 40-point loss to a ranked-Notre Dame squad, will look to enter the win column with a triumph over an in-state opponent.

The Huskies finish up their weekend road trip against the EMU Eagles, hoping to get one game closer to finishing the season as one of the conference’s top six seeded teams.
