DeKALB – At 8:00 p.m. Friday, the Celtic band Gaelic Storm, well-known for their music in the 1997 “Titanic” film, will be performing live at the Egyptian Theatre in downtown DeKalb.

Gaelic Storm is a Celtic band founded in 1996 by Patrick Murphy and has been performing and producing music for over 20 years now.

The band’s big break came in 1997 after film director James Cameron hired the band to write and perform songs for his then upcoming film, “Titanic.” The group wrote two songs for the film titled “John Ryan’s Polka” and “Blarney Pilgrim.”

The band specializes in traditional Irish, Scottish and original tunes in Celtic and Celtic rock styles.

Since their humble beginnings in Santa Monica, California performing in an Irish pub Murphy managed, the band has dropped a total of 13 albums, including a greatest hits collection titled “Special Reserve.” The band is notorious for its high-energy performances of traditional Irish and Scottish music, which has earned them widespread acclaim by celtic and country fans alike.

Tickets can be purchased on the Egyptian Theatre’s website.

Tier 3 seating starts at $37, tier 2 seating is priced at $47, and tier 1 seating at $75. Ticket prices are based on how close you’ll be from the stage; more expensive seats will be closest to the performers. Seniors over 65 years old and NIU students are eligible for a $5 discount.
