The great Christmas tree debate has started as families wonder when is the best time to put up their tree.
One of the major traditions of the holiday is putting up a Christmas tree dressed in colorful lights and ornaments. But, when is it too soon for the Christmas tree to go up?
AFTER HALLOWEEN
Halloween takes place on Oct. 31, and some are excited to spread the Christmas cheer a little early.
Starting Nov. 1, you can find families putting up their trees and working like Santa’s helpers to get the full extent of the Christmas spirit. Starting decorating on Nov. 1 allows for a two-month-long celebration. However, it skips over Thanksgiving, which goes against no tree before turkey.
BLACK FRIDAY
Black Friday falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving, which is when many eager Christmas lovers opt to set up their Christmas decor.
Starting on “Black Friday” allows for Thanksgiving to be a standalone holiday without being overshadowed by Christmas. Black Friday is typically when holiday sales start, leaving families to choose between a good deal or their tree decorating tradition.
FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER
Families who are waiting patiently for jingle bells to start begin the first week of December. These families are considered fashionably late to the Christmas festivities. This allows for one month of Christmas celebrations and cheer without getting too exhausted of Mariah Carey’s whistle tone.
CHRISTMAS EVE
Dec. 24 is the absolute latest date to put up the tree with Christmas being the next day. If the tree has not gone up by now, hurry before it is too late.
Putting up a Christmas tree on Christmas Eve dates back to the Victorian era in Northern Europe where Christmas trees went up anywhere from Dec. 22 to Dec. 24 and were decorated at the very last minute, according to Architectural Digest.
In modern times, this is considered very late to set up a Christmas tree.
In actuality, there is no right answer to the Christmas tree debate. Whether it is Nov. 1 or Dec. 24, the Christmas spirit is still present.
