North Star Conference player of the week Julie Sexton and her fellow Huskie teammates will take their softball show on the road once again when they battle three Ohio schools this weekend.

NIU (14-13) will take on conference foe Akron in a 2 p.m. twin bill Friday. The Zips will be the first conference foe for the three-time defending conference champion Huskies.

Akron entered the week with a 14-17 record, but are winners of its last five games which included a championship win over the University of Detroit in the Lady Zip Invitational.

The Huskies will face Cleveland State Saturday at noon. CSU has jumped off to a slow 1-5 start this season.

The Huskies take on Toledo Sunday in a non-conference doubleheader.

Toledo began the week 11-15 and will be playing 10 games this week which includes Sunday’s NIU match-up.

NIU has been playing well of late, coming off a second-place finish at the University of Michigan NSK/Wolverine Invitational. The Huskies were led by the efforts of Lisa Gilfoy, Lori Reimer and Sexton.

Sexton batted .611 for the week and raised her season batting average to .500, and recorded four doubles, two triples and 10 RBI’s, including a game-winning RBI. On defense, Sexton recorded 16 putouts and three assists.
