ISU tournament awaits Huskies

Some things, it seems, never change.

This weekend the NIU softball team will continue its road trip to Illinois State for the ISU Tournament in Normal, Ill. beginning Friday.

NIU has been on the road for every game this season playing out a difficult schedule that not only includes many opponents who are ranked in the Top-20, but includes only seven dates at home.

Another problem that has plagued the Huskies all season long has been the nagging injuries to their players.

In addition to the injuries, it seems that wherever the Huskies play, whether it be Texas, Indiana, or ISU, rainy and dreary weather is sure to follow.

The Huskies will enter this weekend’s action with the hopes of better weather and a win over No. 19 ISU. The Huskies will open the tournament Friday at noon.

Revenge may very well be on the minds of the Huskies in their rematch against the Redbirds.

In last weekend’s exciting match against ISU, there was very little scoring but fine all-around play. NIU fell 1-0 in the game which took two days to complete because of poor weather conditions.

In the third inning of that game, excessive rain and lightning made playing conditions difficult and the game was not called until ISU had scored a run.

The game was resumed the next day, but the score stood and the Huskies were left looking toward another shot at the Redbirds this weekend.

After the ISU game, NIU will tangle with Iowa State at 2 p.m. Friday, and against Utah at 7 p.m. Friday.
