Irrational Masters, a DeKalb production company, will host a live shadow cast performance of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at 8 p.m. Friday at the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St.
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is a classic movie that features Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon) as they go further and further into the abyss that is transvestite scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s (Tim Curry) strange mansion.
The film is set in the 1970s and is decorated with lots of song and dance from all the characters. The Irrational Masters shadow cast will perform with the movie while engaging with the audience.
A shadow cast is a group of actors who perform alongside a movie that is playing on stage. They often lip-sync to the movie.
Before the movie, there will be a performance by the band Sweetie.
Attendees can expect there to be contests and games.
A traditional game before the show involves finding the “virgins” in the audience. In this context, a virgin is anyone who has never attended a shadow cast performance. Cast members go around the audience and ask who has never been to a shadow cast performance before. They will then select some of these “virgins” for some kind of activity.
Audience members are also encouraged to bring props or even purchase prop kits from the Egyptian Theatre. Kits can be purchased before the show in the lobby for $7.
The Egyptian Theatre does have a list of props that are not allowed, including flames of any kind, large water guns, toast, hot dogs or prunes.
Tickets are $20 and are available on the Egyptian Theatre’s website.
