Welcome back, Huskies!
As the new semester starts, you may be looking for some spots to study. You might even be thinking of spots that aren’t as popular and crowded as the Holmes Student Center or the Founders Memorial Library. Or, you may want to switch up your study spot during the semester. Having an effective study spot where you can get work done is important so that you can succeed academically.
Here are some underrated study spots around campus students can take advantage of this semester.
TOP FLOOR OF FOUNDERS MEMORIAL LIBRARY
The top floor of Founders Memorial Library is a quiet place for students to study. The third and fourth floors of the library are known for being “quiet zones” compared to the first two floors of the library. However, the top floor is pretty much a staple study spot for its view alone. Students who choose to study on the top floor of the library get an impeccable view of campus, primarily MLK Commons and the Holmes Student Center.
EAST LAGOON
The East Lagoon, located near Faraday Hall and La Tourette Hall, is a beautiful site to visit. Students who like to be outdoors can be immersed in nature while studying at the East Lagoon. The East Lagoon has benches that students can sit at to study or students can bring a hammock to lounge in. However, you might want to wait a few months until the weather gets nicer to study outdoors.
PROCRASTINATION CAFE
Procrastination Cafe is hosted from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Tuesday in the Holmes Student Center. At this event, students can go work on tasks they have been procrastinating on and develop good study habits. Free snacks are provided and calming music is played.
This semester, the Procrastination Cafe begins on Feb. 4 in the University Suites at the Holmes Student Center.
WATSON HALL
Watson Hall, located near DuSable Hall and Reavis Hall, is known as the communications building as it holds several communications classes. Watson Hall is a lot quieter than other buildings, like Dusable Hall, due to the fact not as many classes are held there. Watson Hall has a lot of small cozy spaces students frequently study at, so if you want somewhere quieter, Watson Hall is perfect for you.
BARSEMA HALL
Barsema Hall, located near the Engineering Building and Anderson Hall, has dedicated study lounges with lots of electrical outlets and is rarely full. Even though Barsema Hall is where business classes are held and where business majors spend most of their time, anyone can study in Barsema Hall. If students are willing to walk a bit, given that Barsema Hall is the furthest from the residence halls, it is the perfect spot to study.
Have a great semester, Huskies!
