NIU women’s tennis (10-2) extended its win streak to five matches on Friday, earning a 4-3 win against the University of South Dakota Coyotes (3-4) and a 7-0 sweep of the University of Sioux Falls Cougars (1-2).
SOUTH DAKOTA
The Coyotes went up early, winning two matches to clinch the doubles point.
Huskie duo junior Isabella Righi and freshman Lucia Yecora dropped a 6-2 set against South Dakota seniors Grace Chadick and Bea Havlickova.
In their first loss as a duo, junior Jenna Horne and senior Reagan Welch fell to Coyote juniors Selena Bird and Anna Medvyedyeva in a 6-4 defeat.
Senior Maria Dzemeshkevich and junior Nataly Ninova were locked in a 4-4 set against sophomores Sorcha Caves and Amanda de Oliveira when the match was ruled unfinished.
The Huskies took four singles matches to secure the comeback win.
Dzemeshkevich took her set against Oliveira, controlling 6-4, 6-1 sets.
Yecora defeated Bird in dominant 6-3, 6-2 sets.
After a 6-3 first set, Righi took a 7-6 (7-2) second set against Coyote freshman Katarina Curcic.
Ninova was the clincher for the Huskies, defeating Caves in 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 sets.
NIU freshman Irmak Budak lost 6-3, 6-4 sets against Havlickova at the No. 1 singles spot.
In 6-4, 7-5 sets, Huskie freshman Theodora Kousiou lost her match against Chadick.
SIOUX FALLS
The Huskies swept doubles matches, conceding only 2 games in three matches.
Ninova and Dzemeshkevich won a 6-1 set against Cougars sophomore Chloe Siegfort and freshman Sofiya Janos.
Also in a 6-1 set, Righi and Yecora bested Sioux Falls juniors Sydney Osburn and Ella Hancock.
Horne and Welch swept a 6-0 set against seniors Emily Thinnsen and Jaelyn Haler.
The Huskies won each singles match in two sets, allowing their opponents to take no more than 3 games a match.
Budak bested Siegfort in dominant 6-1, 6-2 sets.
Dzemeskevich controlled her match against Janos, taking 6-1, 6-2 sets.
After sweeping a first set against Osburn, Ninova crushed through a 6-1 set for the win.
Welch defeated Hancock in 6-1, 6-2 sets.
Horne took straight 6-1, 6-1 sets against Thinnsen for the win.
Sophomore Sydney Paradise completed the sweep for the Huskies, overpowering Haler in 6-2, 6-1 sets.

The Huskies return to action at 10 a.m. March 1 at Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House against Bradley University. At 3 p.m. the same day, NIU takes on Cornell University.
