From midterm trouble that’s felt across campus to wondering how to dress up for Halloween, seasonal and academic stressors can make the coming months a challenge for students.
To help ease the stress of the semester, the Counseling and Consultation Services will host their annual Well-O-Ween events this spooky season.
During the week of Oct. 27 to Oct. 31, a series of events will take place on NIU’s campus with peer-lead assistance for Huskies who may need to unwind all while keeping a spooky theme.
What can students expect during Well-O-Ween?
The week will start off with “Crafting Connections,” taking place from 6 p.m to 7 p.m on Oct. 27, after which students can expect to see Chase, NIU’s therapy dog, with his friends around campus during the “Pup Crawl” event taking place 12 p.m to 1 p.m on Oct.30 at 1425 W. Lincoln Hwy.
Aubrey Hense, associate director of Student Wellness, assured there will be activities for a range of students and interests.
“There’s a lot of different fun programs and events that are happening to fit a wide variety of interests when it comes to students and what y’all might be interested in doing,” Hense said.
“So whether you are an arts and crafts kind of person, come out to Crafting Connections on Monday. If you are a fellow procrastinator, come to the Procrastination Cafe on Tuesday.”
Ducktober is a scavenger hunt event that will begin on Monday. Rubber ducks will be hidden in different places on campus for students to seek out and turn in for prizes at the Counseling and Consultation Services in the Peter’s Campus Life Building, Room 200.
Alongside the activities around campus, Hense also mentioned the use of peer education with the goal of students being able to see how their fellow coursemates handle the stress of the colder months.
“Its not full time staff that do our programs. It’s our students, it’s our peer educators. We call them the wellness crew,” Hense said.
As Well-O-Ween approaches, these events serve as a reminder from Counseling and Consultation Services that wellness isn’t just about taking a break, but also about forming connections and building a community on campus.
These events are available only for students, but are free for those who participate. Check out the Counseling and Consultation Services events page for more information.
