Welcome back to campus Huskies! In the spring semester’s first Weekly Writeup you will find a wide range of events from roller derby meet and greets to vision board creation.
CREATE A VISION BOARD IN THE LIBRARY
Date and Time: noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday
Location: Founders Memorial Library, first floor entry
To welcome in the new year you can visit the Founders Memorial Library to create a vision board that reflects your goals for the year. Academic coaches and librarians will be on hand to connect you with resources and services to help you achieve your goals and attendees will be provided with supplies and refreshments. This vision board event is geared to help you be the best version you can be in 2026.
RECITAL AND MASTERCLASS WITH LARA DAHL
Date and Time: 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday
Location: Music Building, Recital Hall
The NIU Music Building will host a recital and masterclass from Lara Dahl, a lecturer in oboe and the woodwind area coordinator from Georgia State University. The recital will be held at 3 p.m. with the masterclass following after at 3:45 p.m.
THE BARBED WIRE ROLLER DERBY: BARBED AND DANGEROUS
Date and Time: 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Saturday
Location: DeKalb Public Library, Yusunas Meeting Room
Come meet DeKalb’s roller derby team, the Barbed Wire Roller Derby. During this meet you can get to know the team, its history and training process. The event is free for all and attendees of the meet and greet will receive 50% off tickets for the Barbed Wire Roller Derby’s 6 p.m. game Saturday at the Kishwaukee Family YMCA in Sycamore.
Date and Time: 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday
Location: DeKalb Public Library, Yusunas Meeting Room
Back for the new year are NIU STEAM monthly Teen & Family STEM Cafés. This month’s session will include a presentation by NIU Robotics Club with hands-on robotic activities following afterward. The presentation is free for all and pizza will be offered to attendees.
