NIU Track & Field competed at home in the annual Huskie Classic on Saturday to wrap up the regular season. The team had an astonishing 16 top-three finishes as well as numerous personal and seasonal bests.
The Huskies had seven of the 16 finishes as first place event wins.
Sophomores Esther Momalife and Stella Oyebode came in second and third place in the 100-meter dash. Separated by only 0.03 seconds, Momalife had a personal-best time of 11.94, and Oyebode ran a season-best time of 11.97.
Just 0.02 seconds behind Oyebode was freshman Precious Akinsanya, coming in fourth place with a personal-best time of 11.99.
Sophomore Brooke Jordan ran a season-best 13.96 in the 100-meter hurdles to win the event. Coming in third place was sophomore Miashlie Jean with a personal-best time of 14.13.
In the 200-meter dash, Momalife also came in third place with a time of 24.50. Akinsanya ran a personal-best time of 24.73, coming in sixth place.
Graduate student Roshell Rowe ran a 57.02 in the 400-meter dash, adding another event win to the count.
Coming in second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 1:04.27 was freshman Sanaii Vaughn.
Sophomore Emma Curry ran a personal-best time of 2:12.81 in the 800-meter run, earning a fourth-place finish. This is only her second outdoor meet running for NIU, and she improved by over 3 seconds from her previous time set on April 24 and April 25 at the Michael Johnson Invitational at Baylor University.
Freshman Claire Helmila was not far behind, running a season-best 2:13.54 and coming in fifth place.
NIU runners took three of the four top spots in the 1500-meter run, with freshman Amelia Ojeda winning the event by just under six seconds, running a personal-best time of 4:33.42.
Graduate student Sarah Maggio came in second place with a personal-best time of 4:39.16. Ariel Hernandez, a freshman, came in fourth place with a time of 4:48.85.
In the 4×100-meter relay, NIU’s group — consisting of Oyebode, sophomore Tiffany Colin, Momalife and Akinsanya — came in second place running a time of 47.20.
The Huskies dominated in high jump, taking the top 4 spots in the event. Coming in first was sophomore Jasmijn Raes, clearing 1.66 meters on her first attempt. Junior Ariana Calloway took second place, clearing 1.61 meters on her first attempt.Â
Graduate student Samira Rosenfeld cleared a season-best 1.61 meters on her third attempt, coming in third place. Junior Tod’Jai Ross cleared 1.56 meters on her second attempt, a personal-best, and came in fourth place.
NIU found success in long jump as well, with Rosenfeld winning the event with a distance of 5.64 meters. Ross came in second place, jumping a season-best 5.60 meters.Â
Junior Kaiya Key came in fourth place with a personal-best distance of 5.44 meters. This is an improvement on her previous best of 5.23 meters, set last outdoor season.
Senior Aniya Barton earned the win in triple jump with a personal-best distance of 12.08 meters, a big improvement on her record of 11.53 from the last outdoor season.
