On Thursday and Friday, the Huskies competed in Muncie, Indiana, at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Despite success in previous meets, the Huskies came in last place with a team score of just 12 points. The University of Akron swept the team championship, winning both the men’s and the women’s, with a total women’s team score of 135.5.
Sophomore Precious Umukoro earned third place in triple jump, with a personal-best distance of 12.85 meters on her second attempt.
This mark is third-best in NIU history, a 0.33 meter improvement on her previous personal record of 12.52 meters.
Umukoro also came in eighth place in long jump, with a distance of 5.82 meters, marking two events that her result earned for the team score.
Freshman Amelie Ojeda also had a record-climbing result. In the 5,000 meter run, she ran a personal-best 16:46.91, which is third-best in NIU history.
This time is an improvement of over a minute from her previous personal-best, which was set in April at the Texas Relays, and it earned her a ninth-place finish.
Junior Arianna Calloway tied with two other competitors for sixth place in high jump, clearing 1.66 meters on her first attempt.
Also clearing 1.66 meters was sophomore Jasmijn Raes, but because it was on her third attempt and due to tiebreakers, she finished in ninth place.
The Huskies are now waiting for the selections announcement on Thursday for who will compete at the NCAA West Preliminary Round, which will take place in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Wednesday until May 30.
