NIU track and field took second place at the Illinois State University-hosted Joyce Morton-Kief Invite on Saturday, finishing with a total team score of 106 points – 22 points behind ISU.
The Huskies not only won three events, but had multiple top-three finishes and nine personal bests.
In the 100-meter dash, sophomore Stella Oyebode took first place with a time of 12.07, while freshman Precious Akinsanya came in third with a personal-best time of 12.34.
Sophomore Esther Momalife placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.29.
Coming in second place in the 1,500-meter run, freshman Amelie Ojeda ran a personal best time of 4:35:87.
Sophomore Miashlie Jean also ran a personal best, running a 14.59 in the 100-meter hurdles and coming in third place.
NIU took first place in the 4×100 meter relay race, with Momalife, graduate student Natasha Chetty, sophomore Tiffany Colin and Oyebode making up the team. They finished with a time of 47.49, beating second place Davenport by just 0.07 seconds.
Sophomore Jasmijn Raes also brought in a first place finish in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.67 meters on her second attempt.
In triple jump, sophomore Precious Umukoro came in second place with a distance of 12.02 meters.
