Local business owners sign for The House Cafe

DeKALB | The House Café, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, is set to reopen Oct. 1 as “The House” under the new management of Mark and Martha Robinson, owners of Martha’s Kitchen, 302 Van Buren St. in Malta.

The Robinsons are both graduates of NIU’s music program and performed at The House Cafe in the past with their band, The Great Influence Machine.

The House Cafe opened in 2000 and has since gone through five owners. Brian and Alexandria Fausett, the previous owners of The House Cafe, signed a lease for the cafe on March 18, 2014, according to a Aug. 23, 2010, Northern Star article.

The Robinsons are working with Joel Kennedy, The House Café’s former booker, to schedule bands for The House. No acts have been booked as of Sept. 3, but events will be scheduled within the upcoming weeks, Martha said.

Factors such as licensing and insurance issues may shift that date to Oct. 15, said Martha.

“God willing, the community, my husband and I can continue to provide that for DeKalb for decades to come,” Martha said.
